Rugby Success On and Off the Pitch

It has been a hugely successful and busy period for rugby at Blundell’s, with pupils and Old Blundellians achieving at the very highest levels of the game.

OptimizedImage,,,OptimizedDirector of Rugby, Mr Yapp, recently oversaw seven Blundell’s teams competing at the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, before leading a Year 7 and 8 rugby tour to Shrewsbury over the holidays. Our thanks go to all staff involved in supporting these opportunities, including Mr Headley for accompanying the junior tour.

Over the same period, we have also celebrated a number of outstanding individual achievements.
Old Blundellian Demelza Short made her debut for the England women's national rugby union team during the Six Nations Championship, playing at the iconic Murrayfield Stadium. To represent her country at full international level at just 19 is an exceptional accomplishment, and one that makes the whole Blundell’s community immensely proud.

Current pupils have also enjoyed success within the England pathway and professional club systems. OB Zoe Dare recently earned her first England U21 cap, while Billy in Year 11 has been training and playing with Bristol Bears U16s.

Austin, and Angus in Year 11 have been involved with Exeter Chiefs U16s.

These achievements reflect the strength and depth of rugby at Blundell’s, and the continued success of our players both within school and on the national stage.
